Here’s a question that may shed some light… Are you leading your team or just managing it? If you’re scratching your head trying to answer, you’re not alone. The line between leadership and management is finer than the difference between “affect” and “effect”! 😅 Let’s break it down… Leadership is about:
👀 Vision 💫 Inspiration 🌍 Guiding your team toward a big-picture goal Think of it as being the captain of a ship, steering towards new horizons. Management, on the other hand, is about: 📈 Processes 📆 Organisation 💥 Making sure the ship’s engine doesn’t explode Here’s a story to help you to see what I’m saying in practice… I once worked with a manager - let’s call him Ted - who was great at the day-to-day stuff. The trains ran on time, the ‘i’s were dotted, and the ‘t’s were crossed. But when it came to inspiring his team or driving them toward long-term goals, Ted was out to lunch. It wasn’t until he started focusing more on leadership - painting a vision, motivating his team, and trusting them to get there - that things really took off! The key takeaway here? You need both! Leadership without management is like a ship without an engine - full of potential but going nowhere fast. Management without leadership? That’s a ship that never leaves the dock! So, which one are you doing more of… Leading or managing? How do you strike the balance? I’m curious to hear your perspective…
