After more than 15 years as a business coach, you would not believe how many times I have asked a small business owner “how is your cashflow?” only to hear, “I don’t know, not bad, I think?”... 🥴
I get it, if you’re a business owner who got into business because they were a great mechanic, engineer, marketing graduate, or frankly, any other skilled professional, the likelihood is you have found managing a business overwhelming! Over the past few years, you may have heard the term “outsourcing” being used more and more, but some leaders are not really aware of the difference it can make. Many organisations, especially smaller ones, assume that outsourcing it only for the big corporates.
Outsourcing is very similar to delegating… Ultimately, it’s getting someone else who is better suited and skilled at a certain task to complete it, rather than you! (Usually in half the time!) What is the difference between outsourcing and delegating? The truth is, very little! The only major difference is that outsourcing means to ask a professional outside of the business to undertake the task. For example… Do you ever have non-stop days where you're busy all day, but at the end of it, you feel like you haven't actually accomplished anything? That's the difference between activity 😥 and productivity 🤩!
Activity is running around all day, doing a million things, but not really getting anything done. I liken it to a day of troubleshooting or ‘firefighting’… Productivity is actually getting things done, even if it's just one or two things, and feeling accomplished as you wind up for the day
