Tip 342) Over-servicing versus over-delivering

I think there is a fine line between over-servicing a client and over-delivering—it's a line that's easy to cross. Many moons ago, when I first started Business Coaching, I was very uncomfortable with the fees I was charging, so massively over-serviced with pretty much every client!

While we all want to go the extra mile, there is a real danger of creating a level of expectation that is simply not sustainable. I realised quite quickly that spending an extra half an hour with each client was dramatically impacting my ability to earn, therefore negatively impacting my turnover and profit.

Tip 340) Acquiring attention! Daily automation tricks for your inbox

Thanks to the lovely Sarah Newland from KeyboardSmash for her great email tips.

My top tip for saving the amount of time you spend being distracted by emails flying into your inbox is to divert them! Auto-organising your inbox so that you are in control of what you read and when, is the true answer for transforming your inbox.

Gmail
The tools I use most in Gmail are filters and labels. Lots of unread emails in your inbox makes it hard to prioritise and is overwhelming; we then use precious time and energy thinking and worrying about what to action next.

PR is not just for big companies. Small businesses and sole traders may not have a huge budget for a PR agency, but they can benefit from writing their own press releases.

Here's the why, when, how and where of PR for small businesses:

Why you should write a press release...
  • Set yourself up as an expert.
  • Back-links to your website and helps with SEO.
  • Increase visibility.
  • Increase web traffic.
  • Instant exposure.

Tip 336) Know where you want to be in one year

What will be different about your business in one year? What will be different about your health? Your relationships?

I'm sure we have all heard quotes like "you can't hit a target that you can't see", or "if you are not sure where you are going, don't be surprised if you don't like where you end up", yet most people are not clear on where they want to be in a year's time.

While it's good to have long-term goals, I think 12-month goals can be much more motivating. When a goal is five years away, it can be very easy to procrastinate! 12 months is long enough to make a real difference, but short enough to create some urgency.

Ask yourself the following questions ...

Tip 334) Who is looking after your Mental Health?

Thanks to the lovely Abby Pickles from HappiMe for her Guest Blog on looking after your mental health.

When is a good time to consider what you are doing to take care of your mental and emotional health? For many busy business owners, this often comes at the bottom of their list of priorities.

If you are anything like me five years ago, you might have a glass of wine on an evening, occasionally hit the gym (like, once a year!), or maybe you sit outside and read your book once every blue moon. The truth is, we all know we should be doing more to take care of ourselves, but we get stuck, claim to be too busy, lose the motivation or simply forget.
