Happy Reading!

6 lessons from my recent camper van trips that also apply to business!

Lesson 1: What we resist persists!
Especially when it comes to mud. Yep, turns out that wheel spinning my lovely camper will indeed, not get me out of the mud. In fact the opposite seems to be true! 🤣

Thank god for 4 x4's, tow-hooks & helpful field owners!

Biz lesson: Sometimes we've just got to let it go & let things play out. Stop spinning your wheels frantically trying to change things that don't want to be changed. Take a breath, fully except what is here (as it's already here!) and let go. You'll find it will pass\ solve much quicker!
Lesson 2: Perception is not always reality!

The lovely looking field in pic 2, is in fact the offending field from lesson 1! It is not a peaceful, serene lovely setting at all. It's a waterlogged bog with a pretty view (that was point that the mud decided I was to stop!)

Biz lesson: Often we can make judgements about our team that are based on our own mood, judgments and beliefs. I strongly believe that most of us want to do a good job at work. When someone in your team is showing up in a way that is not what you want, it's your job to check that your perception of things, is in fact reality. Don't take everything at face value.

Lesson 3: I don't need to purchase the entire stock of camping stuff from Amazon to have a good trip! See pic 3 📦

Biz lesson: Everything doesn't have to be perfect to move forward with a new business or project. Aim for the MVP (minimal viable proposition). Just get started and don't spend a lot of time, money or effort until you are pretty sure you are on to a winner.

Lesson 4: It rains a lot in Wales.
Business lesson: Sometimes other people are right and maybe I should listen!

Lesson 5: We live on a stunningly beautiful planet!

Over the last 11 weeks I have stayed in some stunning places. Campervan life has made me stop and smell the roses (or more often wet grass and cow poo!) and I've loved every minute of it. Well maybe not the cow poo!

Biz lesson: Sometimes we have to take a moment to appreciate what is great in our businesses and teams rather than constantly ruminating over what's not!

Lesson 6: The root of all our suffering is the need for something to be different!

1. The weather often does not seem to be getting the memo from my weather app telling it what is should be doing.

2. Narrow lanes don't get any wider if I will them to!

3. Cloudy skies won't charge my solar panels however much I check my battery app.

4. Wasps do not listen to polite requests to leave my van.

5. Citronella candles do not scare mozzies. In fact they seem to like warming their bums on them!

Biz lesson: Just don't sweat things that you can't change. Next time your are annoyed, worrying or upset about something, check in and ask yourself what are you resisting ! And let it go!

What about you? Any camping stories to share?
