As promised, here is how to get the best out of Influencer profiles.

How to spot them:
They are the loudest, chattiest and most open of all the profiles. Happy to tell you all sorts of personal information, high I profiles are not only easily distracted, but they can also often be pretty distracting themselves. The life and soul of the party, this profile loves people, praise, having fun and interacting with others. Typically not great at time management and they can be pretty unorganised!

What they do best:
  • Inspire others to take action.
  • Think fast on their feet – optimistic, intuitive, creative.
  • Full of ideas, but can be impulsive in trying them.
  • PROMOTING ideas, opportunities or people.
  • Outgoing, confident, warm, open, friendly.
  • Enthusiastic and positive.
  • Great communicators, so can be great in sales and customer service roles.

What’s hard for them?
  • Confrontation and rejection.
  • Not talking too much! They can be a distraction.
  • Staying focused – they are easily distracted themselves.
  • Not being the centre of attention.
  • Listening – not always great listeners.
  • Keeping their emotions in check – they can be emotional and impulsive.
  • Staying organised – often untidy and unorganised, with poor follow-through and poor attention to detail.

Communicating with High I profiles
  • Be entertaining and fast-moving.
  • Allow time for rapport building and socialising.
  • Have a sense of humour with them.
  • Talk about personal things.
  • Release information in chunks.
  • Use testimonials and incentives to affect decisions positively.
  • Admire their imaginative ideas.
  • Summarise in writing who is to do what, where, and when.
  • Provide frequent and consistent follow-up with plenty of praise.

Have you worked out your profile yet? The fastest way to learn DISC is to start trying to recognise the profiles around you either in your family, your business or on television. Famous high I's would be Will Smith, Richard Branson, Bill Clinton, Sharon Osbourne (with a touch of D), Richard Branson and, of course, Homer Simpson :-)

Happy I spotting! Next up, Steady Relaters (Tip 108).
