Tip 112) Why a Skills gap analysis is crucial to your business success...

If you want to own a successful, prosperous business that you love, it's essential that you get honest with yourself about your skills gaps.

So how do you do a skills gap analysis?
  • First, write a list of the skills and characteristics that are needed to run your business successfully. 
  • Next, score yourself on a scale of 1–5 (5 being high, I can do this one!) for each.
  • Then identify the ones that will make the most difference to your business right now. Pop a * by your 'low hanging fruit'. 
  • Ask yourself honestly if this is a skill you are capable of learning. If the answer is no, make a plan to research the best way to outsource this. For example, when I first wanted to create the HappiMe app, I knew I was never going to have the patience to learn how to create an app so I found a developer that could do it for me.
  • If the answer is yes – you can learn it, then make a plan on how you can do that. And then start. Do one thing every day that closes this particular skills gap. None of us is born knowing how to write a blog, use Canva or create a website! 
  • Gradually work through your lists. Re-score once a month or once a quarter and re-prioritise your goals.
