Tip 158) 14 Instagram Tips for beginners

I have to admit, Instagram sort of passed me by until quite recently, and while I definitely would not class myself as an expert on Instagram, I have learned quite a few things over the last few months so I thought I would share them. If you are more experienced than me, feel free to add your comments in the comments below!

So, here goes ...
  • Post regularly. Some say daily, and some say three times a day. I would say aim for a minimum of three times a week.
  • Make use of hashtags. # is how people find you. For example, if I add #businesstips to my posts, anyone who searches on that hashtag will see my stuff. You can add up to 30 hashtags to each post, so use them all.
  • Be clear on who you are attracting: Make sure your bio tells people exactly what you are selling and how that will help them. Not the easiest job as you don't have too many characters to play with!
  • Add your location. There's nothing more annoying than checking someone's bio and finding no location, so you don't even know if they cover your area (or if you are worth following!).
  • Use the right # for your target market. For example, a florist using #redrose is not likely to find new prospects. Instead, try #weddingflowers, #flowersbristol #floristbristol #valentinedaygifts, etc.
  • Use Linktree. Linktree is a free tool for Instagram. You can only have one weblink in your bio, but Linktree enables you to add multiple links so you can send your followers anywhere: your website, FB page, Twitter account, blog, etc.
  • Keep your posts clean and tidy. Post your # in the first comment. (Or at least at the end of your post, leaving a gap between post end and your list of #'s.)
  • Work smart. Keep a list of your #'s so you can copy and paste them into each post quickly. Use a scheduling tool like Buffer so you can schedule your posts in advance.
  • Engage with your followers. Always reply to their posts and tag people who may be interested. Actively look for posts to comment on. Strike up a conversation.
  • Post at the right time for your target market. Research when they are most likely to be online.
  • Pick a theme and stick with it. Don't post about random things that are not related.
  • Keep an eye on your 'insights'. Instagram will show you your most popular posts, your follower demographics and the times they are online.
  • Share personal pictures. Remember that followers want to connect with you emotionally, so let them!
  • Put your logo/website/FB on all your posts. Never miss an opportunity to promote yourself!

Happy Posting!
