Tip 300) 14 ways to build your mailing list

Following on from Wednesday's post about why we should build a list – here are 14 ways you can build your mailing list!
  • Firstly, you must give them a reason to sign up. Think about what value you can offer them – tips, advice etc. 
  • Always ask for email on your sign-up/registration form.
  • Collaborate with another business who has the same target market, but is a non-conflicting business. Send an email offer with their details and ask them to do the same. 
  • Offer exclusive discounts, perks or offers on your website or social media for joining.
  • Run competitions on social media. 
  • Grab their email as they are leaving your website by using an enticing lightbox (see www.happime-me.org for an example).
  • Offer a freebie guide in exchange for their email. 
  • If you send a physical product, enclose a business card with reasons to join.
  • Ask all clients and customers to join – as we said in tip 298, it's the most effective way to keep you and your business at the forefront of their minds. 
  • Always ask for business cards at networking events. Send your prospects an email saying how great it was to meet them and inviting them to sign up.
  • If you don't get the sale, the absolute minimum you want to come away with is permission to keep in touch. 
  • Add it to your email signature.
  • Include a 'forward to a friend' message on your emails.
  • Add your sign-up details to your social media profiles.
