Tip 310) Don’t leave your IT maintenance until your device stops working!

Thanks to Kev from Kev's IT for this really useful reminder. We put our cars through a service every year to make sure they are running efficiently, so it makes sense to do the same with our PCs.  I can manage a few days without a car, but I couldn't manage a few days without my computer!

“My computer doesn’t need maintenance, it's running fine” is the most common phrase you hear when IT maintenance is mentioned.

After all, why would you want to spend money maintaining your PC or laptop if it’s still running?

Although we would like to think our PCs and laptops will give us a warning when they need repairing, it isn’t always obvious when there’s something wrong with our device. For example, what would happen if your laptop or PC overheated and subsequently burnt out?

You’d replace it of course, which costs a small fortune depending on the specification of computer needed!

Instead of being reactive, become proactive.

Being proactive when it comes to IT maintenance means that you have three major benefits:
  1. Your PC or laptop is likely to last longer.
  2. You won't have expensive repair bills.
  3. THERE WILL BE NO DISRUPTION TO YOUR BUSINESS.

The third point is perhaps the most important for you if you rely on your PC or laptop to carry out tasks to run your business, such as creating invoices, managing your accounts, and even emailing your customers!

If IT failure disrupts your business, it is likely to cost you much more than it would have done to maintain your laptop or PC in the first place – you'll probably have to stop running your business until your device is back up and running!
