Tip 314) Stop comparing yourself to others

There is nothing to be gained by comparing yourself to others. In fact, it’s one of the quickest routes to unhappiness. Social media has a lot to answer for on this one.

We seem to have this obsession over creating a picture-perfect life. We see Facebook posts of our perfect friends having so much more fun than we are. They are partying, travelling, skiing, mountain climbing, baking the best cakes, receiving the most beautiful flowers, eating at the most romantic restaurants, wearing the best clothes while being forever in love with their soulmate.

Excuse me while I go throw up. It’s all crap. It’s fake. It’s not real life. Those pictures are a tiny snippet in time.

People only tend to put things on social media that they want to you see. They don’t want you to see the arguments, the loneliness, the anxiety or the tears, so they don’t post about that. Oh no. Goodness, we can’t have people seeing that kind of thing.

So, rather than thinking how much smarter, wealthier, or more attractive others are, enjoy and appreciate yourself. In the entire universe, there is no one quite like you. In fact, according to Mel Robbins, the likelihood of you being born as you has been calculated at 1 in 400 trillion.
