Tip 32) How to use Meetup to generate leads for your business

I'm surprised at how many people still don't know about Meetup, despite the fact it has over 27 million members in 180 countries!

Meetup is about connecting people with something in common; they are real-life gatherings where members and organisers get together to connect, discuss and practise activities related to their shared interests.
How to use Meetup to generate leads for your business
The first thing to do is identify who you're looking to attract, then name your group, write some blurb to attract your target market and add some tags, and Meetup will email anyone who has expressed an interest in your tags (e.g. business, personal development, health, eating out, socialising, etc.). They can join your group and are automatically notified when you put a new event on.

For example, I love surrounding myself with positive people, so a couple of years ago I started a Meetup group called Positive People. I wrote some positive blurb, posted a Meetup at a local bar and now have over 1200 members! My events with the Meetup group have generated thousands of pounds to support the HappiMe project over the last couple of years.

Here are some examples of how it could work for your business:
  • Anything business-related: Set up a networking group, add value to members by putting on talks.
  • Anything holistic: Round up a few other non-conflicting therapists and put on events where prospects can come along to try your therapies. Or put on talks that add value.
  • Identify Meetups already running that attract your target market and go along to make connections.

It costs around £15 per month to run up to three Meetup groups. A pretty low-cost marketing strategy really.

Happy MeetingUp!
