Before we get into what makes a great LinkedIn profile, in case you are wondering whether LinkedIn is for you, here are a few facts that may persuade you:
  • There are over 1/2 billion members with 1/4 billion logging in at least once a month.
  • 25 million are in the UK.
  • 44% are women.
  • 2 people join LinkedIn every second.
  • Over 100 million of these are decision-makers or senior-level influencers.
  • 40% use LinkedIn daily.
  • Profiles with photos get 21 times more views and 36 times more messages.
  • Every week, content on LinkedIn is seen 9 billion times!
  • Of the 1/2 billion members, only 3 million are sharing content weekly.
Here are some great tips on how to write a great LinkedIn profile:
  • Have a great, impactful headline.
  • Write an eye-catching summary. Ask friends for feedback. Is it likely to "wow" readers?
  • Keep your profile updated! New roles, contracts, awards, wins etc.
  • Make sure it looks organised and structured. Think - what's in it for them? What are they looking for? What would they find interesting? Keep it relevant and brief. Use bullet points.
  • Include relevant, interesting case studies. Showcase innovative products.
  • Include any volunteering.
  • Include your interests. Make your profile human so viewers want to connect and work with you.
  • Have a great professional picture. Sounds like common sense but I've sometimes been surprised at the images people use on LinkedIn.
  • Get found easier with strong keywords. Think about what users are likely to be searching for and use those.
  • Get Visual. Use lots of great images and videos in your profile. Make it worth looking at.
  • Change your LinkedIn profile URL to something personal.
  • Create an eye-catching background picture on your profile.
  • Ask for recommendations from clients and customers.
  • Ask for endorsements.
  • Engage and comment in groups and on posts. Remember we are in the age of emotional connection. Be authentic.

Go get 'em tiger!

Jo :-)
