What is business coaching?  (and what it's not!)

Business coaching has become a popular industry in recent years, but unfortunately, there are still many misconceptions about. Some people believe that business coaching is a waste of time and money, while others think that it is a magic solution that will solve all of their problems. Here are some common misconceptions about business coaching:
  1. Business coaching is only for people who are struggling: This is simply not true. Business coaching can be beneficial for anyone who wants to improve their skills and achieve their goals. Even successful business owners can benefit from coaching to help them continue to grow and develop. In fact, most of my clients are already successful and are just looking to move their businesses to the next level.
  2. Business coaching is a one-size-fits-all solution: Every business is unique, and so are the challenges and opportunities you face. . Yes, there are 'cookie cutter' business coaching franchises and models out there but I believe that any business coaching or mentoring should be 100% tailored to meet the specific needs of each individual and organization.
  3. Business coaches will tell me what to do: A good business coach will not necessarily tell you what to do. Instead, they will help you identify your strengths and weaknesses, and guide you in finding the solutions that work best for you. That said, sometimes you just need to know what to do and how to do it!
  4. Business coaching is too expensive: While business coaching can be a significant investment, the benefits can far outweigh the costs. It can help you improve your business, increase your revenue, and achieve your goals more quickly than you would on your own. (and I offer a return on investment guarantee on my coaching!)
  5. Business coaching is only for large companies: Business coaching can benefit businesses of any size, from small startups to large corporations. In fact, small businesses may benefit even more from coaching as they often have fewer resources and face unique challenges. My clients range from one man bands to 10,000 plus employees!
  6. Business coaching is a quick fix: Nope sorry! Improving your business takes time and effort. While business coaching can help you identify areas for improvement and create a plan of action, it is up to you to implement these changes and see results. Starting with a coach or mentor is a little like throwing a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle up into the air and letting it land. It can take a while to gather the edge pieces and colors but once you've done that, it can all come together pretty quickly.
  7. Business coaches are only for people who are weak or insecure: Seeking help from a business coach is a sign of strength, not weakness. It takes courage to admit that you need help and to take steps to improve yourself and your business.
