what type of working environment do you prefer

I’m just back from a lovely holiday in Gran Canaria. Despite the faff of the covid tests, locator forms and getting pinged at the airport, it was a great trip. 😊

Apart from dolphin watching and visiting the pretty spectacular mountains, my two favourite days were when everyone else went out for the day!

Just me. A sunbed. The sun. And my kindle. And an audio version of my book to make sure I didn’t come back with panda eyes! Heaven! Bliss!
I LOVE having that space to decompress and switch off. Not every day, some days I can be up a mountain with the best of them, but I need at least a couple of days like that. 😉

Now some, including my partner, would find that pretty damn boring.

We are all different. We all have like and dislikes. For our holidays. Home life. And in our working environments.

Some love a big open plan office. Lots of people to talk to and engage with. Support whenever you need it. Gossiping by the water cooler! Lockdown would have been a major challenge for this group.

And for some, a noisy open plan office is their worst nightmare! Too much chatter. Too many distractions. This group loved lockdown! They’d much rather be home alone or locked away in an office where no one can distract them.

As many of you know, DISC profiling is one of my passions. I think every manager, leader and business owner should understand DISC. You just can’t manage people well with it.

One of the key benefits is that DISC helps you to understand your teams’ preferences and differences.

For example:

The red D profiles (Dominant) and the blue C profiles (Conscientious) would prefer to have their own office or quiet corner so they can just crack on with their work, whereas the outgoing yellow I profiles (Influencers) and the quieter green S profiles (Steadiness) prefer to be around other people. And as we are all a blend of the 4 different profile types, some of you may like both!
