Tip 104) Getting the best out of DOMINANT Drivers (DISC part 2)

Following on from Tip 102, here is how to get the best out of a D profile. 

How to spot them:
D profiles are usually smartly dressed, outgoing and confident, often with a fairly large ego. To the point and blunt, they are very forceful with their opinions and like to base their decisions on facts, not emotions. For D's, it's all about the results, so they tend to be very ambitious. 
​
What they do best:
  • Being decisive and taking risks. 
  • Being direct, dynamic, disciplined.
  • Taking charge – they get things done. 
  • Outgoing and confident. 
  • Result- and task-driven, challenging. 
  • Good leaders, like power and control, recognition.

​What’s hard for them?
  • Repetitiveness, lots of rules and regulations.
  • Being diplomatic – can come on strong in conversations.
  • Opening up – not shy, but private about personal matters.
  • Being told NO.
  • Dealing with weakness, incompetence or emotional people.
  • Keeping their ego in check!

Communicating with D's 
  • Be precise, specific, get to the point! Give facts and bullet points. Don’t waffle.
  • Cover basic steps/high points quickly
  • Use words like accomplish, achieve, and goals.
  • Tell them what's in it for them.
  • Keep your relationship business-like and task-oriented. No personal chit chat needed! 
  • Show them the simplest, fastest route to get them to their stated destination.
  • Tell them what is to be done by when.

D's are pretty easy to spot as they can often come across as intimidating to the other three profiles. Just think confident, direct and a little bit scary, and that'll be a high D!  Famous high D's would be Donald Trump, Shrek, Gordon Ramsay, Simon Cowell, Margaret Thatcher, and Alan Sugar.
